Sue Jennings Masterclasses

Masterclass 1, Neuro-Dramatic - Play (NDP)

(Sat 24th Oct 2015 from 9am - 5pm)

NDP is the sensory playfulness of early childhood, before and after birth. It is a critical time for the establishment of trust, empathy, fine tuning and attachment.

NDP includes sensory, rhythmic and dramatic play, the early embodied experience that is the foundation that allows life and creativity to flourish.

This workshop, which is largely experiential, encourages individuals and the group to re-experience their personal NDP development, in order to find new insights into their early sensory world. From this will emerge their own sense of mind and therapeutic intuition, which will help to clarify both personal and professional foggy issues.

The workshop will end with a Power Point presentation of examples and underlying theory of NDP as a basis for arts therapies.

Masterclass 2, Shakespeare’s Emotional Intelligence and the Seething Brain

(Sun 25th Oct 2015 from 9am - 4:30pm)

Recent discoveries in neuroscience have shown that emotional intelligence is as important as the familiar IQ. Many children and teenagers, and indeed adults, have an emotional intelligence that is less mature than other aspects of their brain development. We now know that brains and their contents are not fixed at birth but continue to grow and develop according to the ‘good enough’ attachment. Therefore it seems pertinent to consider examples of emotional intelligence in literature, namely Shakespeare and in particular, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Kelly Hunter’s ‘Shakespeare’s Heartbeat’ (2014) approach for working with children on the autistic spectrum will be included, showing how an experience of Shakespeare’s imagery and characters can bring about profound change.

A Power Point presentation at the end of the workshop will give illustrations of Shakespeare’s Emotional Intelligence (ShEM).

Shifting Perspectives and ritual transformation in Dramatherapy (3 days)

Friday 13th September from 7pm to 9p.m

Saturday 14th  September from 9am to 5pm

Sunday 15th September from 9am to 4pm

Lana Sussman Davis and I will be facilitating a very exciting workshop. Some time ago we were discussing milestones in our lives, and how the statues and monuments we encounter in parks and town squares can help us make a shift from one lifestage to another. This led to a discussion of ritual and the healing that can come from bringing ritual to our lives.

On Friday,  we will introduce you to the transformation that can happen in shape-shifting and milestone transformation. On Saturday, using a small scene from Shakespeare's Tempest as our guide in the morning, together with dramatherapy techniques, Joanna will help participants bring the gifts of shape-shifting into the here-and-now in the afternoon. On Sunday, Lana will help facilitate an exploration of our own healing and transformative rituals giving our personal, unique milestones and stories a treasured place in our biography.
